Definitions

External applicants:  Applicants who currently do not have a tenure-track position in the Harvard School and Department/Unit/Area to which they are applying for a tenured position.  This Phase I program does not include faculty who are being considered for a promotion from a tenure-track position to a tenured appointment in the same Harvard School and Department/Unit/Area.

NOTE:  At HMS, “external applicants” refers to candidates applying to tenured positions in which the primary appointment will be on the HMS Quad and HMS will be the faculty member’s employer. HMS faculty members with primary appointments at a Harvard affiliated hospital or in a non-ladder position anywhere at Harvard are also considered “external applicants” because they are not currently in a tenure-track position on the HMS Quad.

External finalist:  An external applicant whose tenured appointment has been approved by the President and Provost and who has obtained a contingent offer of Harvard employment

Misconduct:  Any form of harassment or discrimination, retaliation, sexual misconduct, bullying or intimidating/abusive behavior, unprofessional relationship, or misconduct related to scholarship, research, teaching, service, or clinical/patient care (collectively “Misconduct”)

Harassment or Discrimination:  “any form of harassment or discrimination” includes, but is not limited to, harassment or discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, sex (including but not limited to sexual orientation and gender identity), pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions, genetic information, ancestry, age, veteran status, military service, physical or mental disability, or any other protected class under state, federal or local law, or any employer’s policies.
