SUMMARY:Behind the Scenes at the Houghton Library
DESCRIPTION:From Renaissance illuminated manuscripts to mid-20th century comic books, from Emily Dickinson's tiny desk and chair to Edward Lear's "nonsense botany," the Houghton Library is a home for treasures. But it's more than a library: it's an active research center for students and senior scholars, local and international, who with the help of the Houghton's curators and librarians have explored diverse subject areas ranging from the history of the theatre, artists' books, philosophical debating societies, the politics of post-War science fiction, the work of contemporary authors such as John Updike and Gore Vidal, and much else besides. Please join Louis Menand, Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professor of English, Tom Hyry, Florence Fearrington Librarian, and the curators and librarians of the Houghton, to hear more and to examine firsthand a selection of library treasures for yourself. Refreshments will be served.
